How To Set & Accomplish Your Goals

Hey dudes! Today we are going over how to set and accomplish your goals using the Daily Grind Planner. In last week's blog post, we went through a personality test that helped you gain clarity on who you are and what motivates you. Now, it's time to put that knowledge into action and determine what goals you need to set in order to achieve your dream life! It can feel overwhelming at times to try and narrow down your big life vision into smaller, actionable goals. So we are going to break it all down into bite sized chunks. Let's go!

Step 1: Brainstorm

When I feel overwhelmed by all the thoughts swirling around in my head, getting it all down on paper always makes it feel more manageable. First things first, let's brainstorm what we want our life to look like 1 year from today. I like to do this brainstorm on the Blank Dot Grid Insert in my Daily Grind Planner so I can have my vision in front of me daily! Now, for all my over thinkers out there... DON'T SELL YOURSELF SHORT! Don't think about what is "possible" to do in a year... think about your DREAM LIFE in a year. This can be tough if you are an analytical person, so hear me out. Put on a super inspiring playlist that is about 10 songs long... something that just really gets the creative juices flowing for you (for me it's the Greatest Showman soundtrack!). Next, I want you to silence all your notifications, get rid of all distractions, and just brain dump everything you want for your life over this next year. Don't stop writing until this 10 song playlist is over!

Step 2: Break It Down

Now that you have a full vision written down of what your dream life would look like 1 year from now, it's time to break it all down. Take some time and write down 10 goals that you would need to hit in order for that 1 year vision to become a reality.  For example: If part of my 1 year vision is to be earning $100,000 per year, a few goals that would help me get there would be to start/run a business that earns me $100,000 in profit per year. For this step, you will choose 10 goals that if accomplished, would make your dream life a reality. Once you have these 10 goals, I want you to break each goal into 3 smaller goals that you could accomplish through out the year. These will be your 4 month goals. Use the "4 Month Vision" sheet at the beginning of your Daily Grind Planner to brainstorm and organize your goals for the next 4 months!

Step 3: Monthly Goals

At this point we know what we want our life to look like and what we would have to achieve to get there. Now it's time to get real! We are going to reverse engineer these 10 goals into 10 smaller, monthly milestones using the "Month Ahead" page in your Daily Grind Planner.  For example: If my big goal is to own a business that generates $100,000 in profit per year, and my 4 month goal is to earn my first $34,000, my first smaller monthly goal would be to open and start that business.

Step 4: Daily Goals

We have our 1 year vision, our 10 big goals for the year, our 3 sets of 4 month goals, and our 10 smaller goals for this month. Let's create a daily action plan to accomplish our 10 monthly goals! For each one of your goals, choose 1 to do item that you could accomplish TODAY that would move the needle towards accomplishing your monthly goal. You will do this on your "Daily Planning" page in the Daily Grind Planner. For example: If my monthly goal is to open and start my business, then my daily to do item for today could be to determine what type of business I would like to start and how much my products/ services would cost.

Step 5: Determine Your "Top 3 Movers"

You just took your huge life vision and chunked it all the way down into daily, actionable items! You're already on the road to success! This all looks great on paper, but when it comes to real life, things can fall off track and the overwhelm can set in. This is where your "Top 3 Movers Today" section will come in handy on your "Daily Planning" page. These are your NO MATTER WHAT to do items for today. These are what we like to call, your Daily Grind!  Go through your 10 to dos, and determine which 3 would really move the needle. Then, no matter what happens, do not end your day until these 3 items have been completed!

When it comes to working toward the life of your dreams, it's not about running full steam ahead every single day. This is how you burn yourself out and get stuck in a rut! Instead, focus on consistency over intensity. Move forward on your goals every day.. even if it's just a little bit, even if it doesn't look perfect, and especially when you don't feel like it. Take these goals inch by inch, and in a year from now, you'll look back and see how those inches added up to miles and miles of progress. Now, let's go get some *ISH* done!
