Notes from Angie #1: Why I Revisit My Top 10 Goals Every 4 Months

Hey everyone!

Can we have an honest coffee chat for a second? ☕

Let’s talk about that dirty little word in the productivity world: planner guilt.

You know the feeling. It’s January 1st, you’re on fire, you write down a massive list of goals, and you swear this is the year you’re going to completely change everything. Fast forward a few months… life gets chaotic, work gets busy, you miss a week or two in your planner, and suddenly looking at that goal list feels less like inspiration and more like a list of ways you’ve failed.

So, what do most people do? They throw the whole planner in a drawer, wait until next January, and repeat the cycle.

I used to do the exact same thing until I realized something massive: You are not a robot, and your life isn't static.

The person you were four months ago had different energy, different priorities, and different things going on than the person you are today. Expecting yourself to blindly push forward without ever stopping to check in is the fastest recipe for burnout and overwhelm.

That is the whole reason I built The Daily Grind system around a 4-month framework.

We have our big picture vision and our Top 10 Goals, but every four months, I intentionally pause, sit down with a hot drink, and revisit that list. Here is why this simple ritual keeps me on track and how you can do it with me this week.

1. Permission to Pivot (Without the Guilt)

When you never pause to check in on your goals, changing your mind feels like quitting. But shifting your focus isn't quitting, it’s alignment.

Maybe four months ago your main focus was a massive business project, but right now your body is screaming for a health reset. Revisiting your goals allows you to adjust your focus, release the guilt, and pour your energy into what actually matters right now.

2. Narrowing Down Your Focus

Having big goals is amazing, but trying to work on 10 huge things all at once every single day is impossible. The 4-month framework gives you a dedicated window to narrow your focus. It lets you ask: "Out of my Top 10, which goals am I actively bringing into the spotlight for these next four months?"

It gives you enough time to make real, visible progress on those specific targets before you move on to the next focus area.

3. Re-Aligning Your Daily Needle Movers

It’s easy to get caught up in "busy work" that feels productive but doesn't actually move your life forward. When I do my 4-month check-in, I look at my active goals and ask myself:

"What are the actual action steps that move the needle here, and what is just noise?"

From there, I can set my monthly goals and make sure my daily action list is actually pushing me closer to where I want to be, instead of just filling time.

Your 4-Month Reset Check-In 📝

If you feel like you’ve been spinning your wheels or falling behind on your routine, consider this your official clean slate. You don't need to wait for Monday, and you definitely don't need to wait for January 1st.

  1. Grab your favorite drink and open your planner.

  2. Revisit your Top 10 Goals. Ask yourself: Do these still make sense for the season of life I am in right now?

  3. Adjust your focus. Decide which goals are taking center stage for these next 4 months.

  4. Identify your Needle Movers. What daily actions and monthly targets will actually move these goals forward?

Remember, the goal isn't perfection. It’s showing up for yourself consistently and making ish happen on your own terms.

What is ONE goal you are focusing on for your next 4-month stretch?

Sending you so much love and magic,

Angie xx
